December is Lexember, so for today I’m looking at some tree words from Calenyena, the language of Reiassan. šŸŒ³

Today’s word is thorn alder, because I can!

In further proving that my Reiassani persona is a Bitrani transplant to Calenta (tall, light-skinned, short hair, prefers less bright color combinations), the alders, including the thorn alders, exist on Reiassan almost entirely in the borderlands between South and North.

Cynara’s finger pointed without hesitation. Ā ā€œHer. Ā Channing.ā€ Ā She looked a little startled at her finger, then back at Abaddon, then back at the girl in question. Ā ā€œHer,ā€ she repeated. Ā She was more firm this time. Ā ā€œI ā€”ā€ She turned away from him, looking at Zita and Howard and Leo. Ā Her friends.

ā€œThanks. Ā I will owe you one, when we are our own people.ā€ Ā He couldn’t promise, but he imitated the phrasing he’d heard from people who could.

She wasn’t listening anymore, already turned to Howard, but he thought he saw Zita nod in approval at him.

Then he was moving on, hurrying, stepping up until Channing could see him.

Carrone was unsurprisingly quiet as they left Teshone’s. Ā Deline let it go as they strode down the avenue, but when they got to the carriage house, where the next outbound carriage would soon be heading towards the Imperial Seat, she broke the silence.

ā€œDo you know what happens if someone bound with a Bear-stone bracelet kills the holder of the bracelet – or if the holder dies through other means?ā€

She noticed the way his shoulders tensed. Ā She couldn’t bring herself to feel bad about that.
