The theme this month for my Patreon is “Finish It!”
Which means, if you have wanted me to finish something, if you want me to write more about things, if you think I have too many cliffhangers, if you’ve been thinking about sending me a couple bucks in my tip jar,
now is a great month to join my Patreon at the $5 (prompt-me, “To-Do List”) level.
Yes, even if you only want to join for a month. I won’t tell anyone 😉 That’s still $5 (less fees) for me!
Bonus: If you join and prompt, I will write to one of your prompts, even if I’ve already written the 4 stories for that month.
Yes, it’s a loophole to get me to write even more finishes (or semi-finishes, let’s be honest). But to do that – you gotta Patronize (the capital P is important in this case; if you lower-case patronize me I don’t write nothing) me and you have to prompt (on the “Prompt Call” post, please).

They had done all the rituals in the days leading up to the solstice and the long night vigil of remembrance on the night itself. They had lit the candles and sung the songs, they way their people had been doing since that horrible night so many lifetimes ago.

A long time ago, M.C.A. Hogarth posted something in her LJ about tropes she’d like to see. One of them – which I have tried more than once to write – was about the young male (it might have been a mage?) recruiting the older female fighter?
Anyway, I was looking through my archives and I found this first chapter, or so, of Fiametta, a Strand-Worker living up on the top of a mountain.

Stranded - well, Autumn - came out of the book Blue Highways.
According to Wikipedia, this book came out in 1982. I don’t think I read it that early at all - I would’ve been six - but someone recommended it to my father, and I read it. I was probably in my early teens.

Today’s word is thorn alder, because I can!
In further proving that my Reiassani persona is a Bitrani transplant to Calenta (tall, light-skinned, short hair, prefers less bright color combinations), the alders, including the thorn alders, exist on Reiassan almost entirely in the borderlands between South and North.
This is one of my oldest stories-for-submission. It made my mom cry…

Natela was not particularly surprised. For one, the Grigori rarely listened to anyone who was not Grigori, and although she had their blood, she was not of them, but by their standards.
This story takes place 50 years past the original story, nearly 40 years after the apocalypse, after the Retirement stories.

In apple season, we make this an average of once a week. As a matter of fact, we just diced up a whole bunch of apples, dipped ‘em in lemon-juice-water, and stored them in the freezer (Chinese soup containers) with the sugar needed for four of these cakes.

Oct. 17th, 2017 09:54 amThis is a weird one. Today’s Patreon Sum-up involves three stories I wrote, not to prompts, but because they appeared to me. All crossovers of one sort or another.
Okay, so I’m working on my outlines for Finish It nanowrimo coming up in, well, November. And I got to the one for Facets of Dusk and I started thinking about – well, the doors they might open.
“Get us someplace with medical care!” Simon shouted.
“Someplace with advanced technomagical medical care.” Aerich’s aristocratic snarl sounded panicked.
“Someplace they’re not going to shoot at us.” Cole’s voice was calm. But Cole, who had Josie in his arms, also sounded serious.

I blame this on my current marathon re-read of the Sandman comics.
On Halloween, 2011, when the walls between worlds were thinner than they had ever been, the woman called The Cat Who Walks Through Walls (because her Mentor had been fond of Robert Heinlein, in his day and in her day) left her kids with her sister, as per their arrangement, and slipped out between those world-barriers.
Okay, I guess the theme is really talking to me this month.
Here’s another bonus, spurred on but not really related to a line from a Popular Mechanics article I read last night: (paraphrase) “AI is going to make the Industrial Revolution look small.”
Autumn knew better than to grab the strands of the world too much around Hallowe’en.
Everything was thinner at that time, more responsive, more willing to bend and twist and open.

Okay, so I was playing around with a roleplay with Cal and Cynara decided to build herself a castle. Well, a play castle, this is ~8×8 with a tower; it’s a shed-sized castle.
The poll has spoken!
The walls between the worlds are thin in October, especially as Hallowe’en approaches. It’s easier to step between universes – or to slip and fall down a rabbit-hole you were never expecting.
This month’s theme is Crossovers – those slips, those falls, those determined steps into another world.

The renovations started in June.
They closed on the house in October — Judy had a feeling about the place; Steve thought it had good bones — and lived with the ugly panelling, the wonky ceilings, the strange toilet all winter long.
As soon as the weather was consistently warm, down came the hideous paneling.

The Aramob had not been expecting resistance when they went against the Village. Town people were soft, and folded easily. That was the wisdom of the elders, that was what the young warriors preached. Especially water-towns, where their food came easy and they could waste their time in games.
This is Viddie (Viðrou, but his mother didn’t want to call him Vitthie.), the son of Cynara and Leofric from, among other things, Addergoole: a Ghost Story.
In theory, it should have been easy.
Viddie knew pumpkins. He’d grown up eating pumpkin pie from scratch, and he knew all of the ins and outs of what made a pumpkin a pumpkin.
This turned out a little strange…
Sub-bureaucrat Azenia had her hands full and her lamp was burning far past closing time.
She knew, of course, that the over-bureaucrats liked it that way.
