ETA: Ah, had a thought about setting: I don't think I'm picky in general, but I tend to dislike dystopias.

* Real problems being introduced, developed, worked on, overcome, and then replaced with different challenges.
* Exploration of many different sexual tastes, activities, concepts, etc. with some that people decide they like and others they decide they don't and it's all fine.

* Any character falling/staying in love with someone who treats them badly. I am so fucking tired of this in urban fantasy where it's ubiquitous but it's bad everywhere. Usually the "strong female character" winds up with a jerk. We HATES it, Precious!
* Perfect pr0n bodies having perfect pr0n sex where nothing every goes wrong or requires conversation or adaptation.
* Sex/romance as the only form of intimacy, physical or emotional.

I'm flexible. I like lots of settings. Some things I would enjoy include:
* Any government other than the fantasy-default monarchy. Ergatocracy, heroarchy, or pornocracy might be interesting in this case.
* Any period/technology other than the fantasy-standard Dark Ages/Medieval/Renaissance. And you've ruled out Steam/Victorian. A sophisticated ancient civilization a la Greece, Egypt, India, or Japan might be interesting. So would a later period like, say, Colonial America.
* I often enjoy biotope stories where the setting is very explicit and influences the plot. So maybe look for environments that rarely appear: temperate rainforest, cloud forest, cold desert, geyser fields, etc.
See the overall pattern? I am strongly attracted to things I haven't read before.

Possibly... exploration of conflict between kink private life and vanilla public life?
Hah! - How about kink in a cold climate setting? Not so easy to scamper about scantily clad then ;-D
