Okay, I'm ready to start planning the Addergoole Book One Kickstarter. The book is drafted, so step one done (it's been drafted for well over a year...)

Things I know I need:
* Cover art/layout
* Editing

Things I might like:
* Layout done professionally, both e- and paper book
* internal art/poster art

Things I maybe Need:
* ISBN?

From those basic lists, what am I missing?

In addition, if you were going to support this sort of Kickstarter, what sort of reward tiers/stretch goals would you like?

(Note: this sort, because I know Addergoole is not everyone's cuppa tea.)

For kickstarters like that (already finished book) I tend to just go for the ebook reward.

Things I've seen included "additional nea story written and included in the back of the book" and "additional new story written to your prompt if you contribute a LOT".

Something like physically mailed thank-you postcards or bookmarks might be an option, but I guess that might be more effective if you had cover art already.

... I wonder if you could talk to Tod about turning the Addergoole icons he made for you into stickers or something.

Tiers that require input are usually a) very high, and b) limited in number, so do remember that.

Pick out your printer now. (I'd also suggest making the print book a stretch goal.)

If you're doing posters, find that printer, too.

For book kickstarters, I usually go for the print tier if it's not too high. I rarely consider bonus story content, though it's commonly offered.

If you're doing an illustrated book, I'd recommend either a) making the illustrated version a stretch goal, or b) making the illustrated ebook a higher tier than the non-illustrated e-book. (Too expensive to have two separate print versions, hence only suggesting for the ebook.)

I like stickers, but those should probably be a first or second tier reward. I'd say second; make the first a backer name listing on a 'thank you!' page on the website or something.

Artwork like post cards or posters or such only work if the art is quite good and requires you to get them printed ($ cost) and shipped ($ and time cost).

I don't know if you'd actually get any bites on it, but for a limited upper reward tier, you could offer replicas of Shahin's wrist cuffs or an Addergoole-style collar or something like that.

That is a LOT of work. If you think you would actually get it done and it would be worth it, it's not a bad idea, but I think the appeal of a hand-bound book is pretty niche.

If you're doing a print book through Createspace, you don't need an ISBN; they will provide one. I think you can get one for free that lists Createspace as the publisher, or one for $10 that lists your publishing company, but I'm not 100% sure. I do know that if you buy ISBNs from Bowker they're ridiculously expensive until you're getting thousands.

I tend to only be interested in books (e or paper) from book Kickstarters. I did get a map poster for one of MeiLin's Kickstarters, but I haven't actually put it up on my wall or anything and it's in sad shape at this point.

Have you read Micah's Kickstarter book? I thought it was great, though I haven't actually done one myself!

Also, if you want a quote from me for editing (price and time), let me know!

I know an amazing editor who has great rates, btw. :)

For goals, maybe a personalized note in the book and some extra content like a codex?

yeah, like added maps or bestiary, or character biographies, bits of lore that didn't make it into the story proper, that kind of thing.

I don't know if you're a gamer, but a lot of the bigger games, like Dragon Age have put out what's called the "World of Thedas" that gives people a much more in-depth view of the culture of their universe and what's going on.
