Chapter 39: Abednego
by Lyn Thorne-Alder

Thursday, January 4, 2001

Abednego couldn’t help but notice the fuss on the other side of the dining hall.

He was pretty sure they noticed it in the next state (even if he was a little confused what state that might be, here underground).  Arna  - what had Arnbjörg been up to?  She’d stomped right up to that table with the six-armed girl and her friends, just like she stomped up everywhere.  Abednego had tried not to cringe, but he hadn’t bothered not watching.  She was glowering at the six-armed girl and the collared boy next to him.

“What does she think she’s up to?”  Eris sounded fascinated.  It was the first time Eris had sounded interested in anything since Zita left.  (Left.  Was taken.  Was “rescued”.  Was gone).  Abednego wasn’t sure that boded well for whatever she was interested in.

*hugs Abednego!* Oh lordy. Poor kid. :( Rafe, how do you not have half a clue as to what you're doing and how you're acting by now? Joff was right; he's acting like Meshach without the violence.

Part of me wishes, quite strongly, that Joff would challenge Rafe for Abednego. Trouble is, I want Joff to win, and I'm not sure he's a fighter, where Rafe seems to be more of one... Turning empathy to a challenge like that could work, like what Shahin did with her own power when fighting Xaviera, but it also seems... like a twisting of Joff's usual power usage, somehow. Not one for violent or harmful projection, I imagine, even in situations where it might be ethical. Maybe a strong clue-by-four, but not a sustained harsh projection like Shahin used on/got from Xaviera. So...?

I just want to give this whole crew, Kept included, a doorway to a 'Love Is For Children' sort of scenario a la Ysabet. Abuse survivors all, and they all deserve a sharding break.

Not sure *I* could write it either. I might have a go, though... hmm.
