The pay at the Lab was really good, and the benefits were literally unbelievable.

Jess reminded herself of that whenever she started feeling like she needed a Henchman t-shirt or an old lion-tamer’s ship and chair.   She had two kids of her own and a niece at home; the Lab gave them a place to live that was probably the most secure three-bedroom house on the planet, had a top-notch school, and paid Jess enough that she could take them all on a really good vacation every year.

Which she needed, because right now she was supervising a slap-fight between two interns who just happened to be handling vials of what she thought was probably a neurotoxin.

Keeping the lab staff from killing (maiming, experimenting on ...) each other -- using her discretion as to how she keeps the lab staff from killing each other and who goes down if it comes to that -- while actually letting any research get done -- that's a hell of a job. She seems to be good at it. It may all go horribly wrong someday if she gets the unofficial org chart wrong and someone management was fond of becomes a research subject on her watch, and I bet there's no retirement plan ...

Whoever put the security staff off limits as research subjects in not only their contracts but the scientists' is probably the safest person in the lab. :)

Whoever named the floors needs a smack upside the head, but there are a lot of higher priority things at the lab to smack people upside the head for.

"Have fun with the interns new test product." "Interns" there appears to be intended as possessive, and as such needs a trailing apostrope.
