Is it wrong of me to hope that Rafe realizes that the last few words were, if I'm reading it right, aimed squarely at him, and gives Abednego a better time of it? Less conflicting orders (I caught that too), less abject shame?
But oh, those poor boys, and Eris, and--who in the heck is doing all this? It can't just be the single ghost, can it? Murderer *and* murder victim speaking up - didn't Regine kill him and bury the evidence? It's not Juniper yanking the vicious strings; from what little glimpse we've had of her, I don't think she would... It's not the Zeroths or the other basement folks, because Year 9 is a thing.
Gah, poor Abednego, and Rafe. And Eris, and Joff, jeez.
The package arrived when Abednego was blessedly alone in the suite He didn’t know where Rafe, Eris, Joff, and Zeke had gone, and he found he really didn’t care.
But he had absolutely no orders about opening mail, especially not mail addressed to him, and so he opened it, slowly, like it was a Christmas present, the sort of thing people on TV might get.
The box wasn’t all that big, a little over a foot on a side, and he didn’t recognize the person who’d sent it, but it probably wouldn’t have made it through whatever mail-screening this place had if it was dangerous.
He had a brief mental image of someone sending their kid a cake with a shiv baked in and then dismissed the idea. His mother, at least, wouldn’t do something like that.
But someone had sent him something light, boxed, and addressed “Abed.”
He pulled the flaps up and peeked inside. It was lavender and soft, very soft, and fluffy.
Soft, lavender, fluffy? It smelled a little bit like sunshine, if that was possible, and warmth.
He pulled it out of the box. A....blanket?
A blanket. He wrapped it around himself and felt warmer, safer, happier. He pulled it closed in the front so that he was wrapped in a cocoon of comfort.
He would have to hide it before everyone came home. But for a moment, he was safe and happy.
Seriously, Lynn, there is an almost limitless amount of <3 for this over here!
*sends Abednego some chocolate oatmeal cookies*
*drops another tin of the same sort of cookies on the suite's common table for the whole lot to share, because yeesh, this bunch!*
Truly, I'm surprised Joff and Zeke don't speak up more re: Rafe's treatment of Abed. Joff seems both much kinder and more fierce than he's given credit for by most people in the school, and Zeke grows into a white hat, so would he at least speak to Joff on the issue?
