Steamer Trunk, Oct 08 2011 (open from top) So, there was a steamer trunk in our attic... It had been a little chewed on and a little lived in, but it might might be refurbishable... (more pics here)

I'm hoping I can restore it; it's in pretty bad shape in bits. But it's pretty awesome.

After peeking at your photos, I have two thoughts -
1) That trunk could hide a LOT of yarn.
2) Your coffee table pose would never keep mugs up, not flat enough ;)

And yes. *grins* I could put lots and lots and LOTS of yarn in there. Or a small redhead.
