Giraffe Call coming this Saturday - and a question

This Saturday will be the October Giraffe Call for prompts, the theme sponsored by this icon from dhampir - "Spooks and Creeps, Ghosts and Ghouls."

After a discussion in Clare_Dragonfly's journal after her Garden of Prose, I've been contemplating donor/comment perks. What sort of thing motivates you to comment/linkback/donate?

I'm afraid I have no suggestions for you because I comment on almost everything you write! Though, I will note, I am less likely to comment if the only place a piece is available is in the comments on your LJ. It's hard to read the other comments and I just prefer commenting on DW. I also try to always linkback and I will probably donate this time because I have money right now. That's about it!

I like extensions of favorite written material, or extra posts of something new.

I've had good results with posting poetry verse-by-verse for linkbacks. With fiction, maybe each linkback would be good for a certain number of words, such as 25 or 50. You could put all those into a single popular story, or let people distribute them in chunks across several stories.

For comments, maybe set a overall target and post an extra story or a piece of bonus material if the target is met. meeks has a perk for the story that gets the most comments or linkbacks. You could set that for writing an extension of the most popular story.

Bonus material is cool for all kinds of different things. K.A. Jones posts background information about her series. I write little essays about how poetry works for my Poetry Fishbowl donors. For you, I'd say go with the series background; you have a lot of settings and people are really intrigued by them. Frex, you might say, "If I get a total of 20 comments, I'll post a short history of Tir na Cali" or whatever. Or use it as a donor perk, where there's a threshold of donations that will earn bonus material.
