Abby stared at the door.  “Hold on?” she asked the Livs.  It won’t go where it did.  Well, nothing had yet.  We can’t go home.  What did Abby want more than anything?  Home?

She wanted to feel safe, and to have a warm place to sleep and a real meal.  She wanted to see sunlight and feel it on her face.

She opened the door.

Some of the people who seem complicit are duplicate and stuck too? I'm not sure how to interpret this one, but the offer of food (and indirect warning of doom ... being Abby really isn't safe!) seem honest. :-/

That comment about watching Abby die twice is rather dire. On the other hand, this Vic isn't obviously their Vic. Or if it is, this Vic has changed significantly. They now have their warning: have some pigeon and get out before the Things with a taste for Abby can show up.

I wonder if our candy distributor can tell the difference between Livs. Or if he's actually done something to Abby?

Meanwhile: food. Possibly information. And then getting out. And if going out the same door takes you to a different place, maybe Abby can open the same door again with a different set of desires and end up somewhere more useful. Or will time go further forward again?

Finally, I'd failed to notice the "reasonable time" clause before. I'm dubious, though: who's definition of "reasonable"? Because "reasonable" could be "before you die of old age".

On the other hand, I have to point out that this was Orig!Abby’s crush, and he seems very sad to have watched her die.
