<warm fuzzies> But the internet is still on and the laptop is not entirely out of power?

The wind is roaring and the rain is pounding against the windows, here, but both are intermittent and inbetween fairly quiet. Still some city noise in the background, though.

I have a 2 MW generator right outside one of my windows. (It's attached to the converted mill building I live in, as the mill was once water-powered, and some of the infrastructure is still in place and working.)

That generator is usually only sporadically running. However, it's been running since the first power outage we had this winter. Even if the rest of the area loses power — and my building is one of the least likely to, as all the power lines are underground — that generator will be providing a bit of background hum against wind, rain, or whatever else the weather decides to do.
