These are a few microfics, written to prompts for my Renovations Prompt Mini-Call (which is still open as long as I keep getting prompts).

Claim the Sun


The tree was ancient, the sort of monster that managed to live through a convergence of luck and good soil, best placement and the weakness of her neighbors.  She had sucked up all the sunlight for what seemed, to the younger trees, like miles. And she had, in turn, sucked up lightning blasts.

It had been the last one that killed her, cutting through old scar tissue and toppling her in a  crash louder than any thunder.

"Claim the Sun" is a double-post, and it feels like it isn't quite done. Is there more to it elsewhere?

Will those over-prepared people be drastically under-prepared for the next disaster, now that all their preparations are a theme park?

That angel has Opinions. I wonder how, or whether, it will enforce them on the next set of vandals to come by.

Dear Phoerin: just do the stone nesting site. You'll still be spectacular, and it won't burn the place down.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the unknown girl is a dryad or similar.

Aha! That makes much more sense now. I've read of — and seen pictures of — new trees growing from the remnants of old. I wonder if the other trees can persuade Mom to not spread quite so much this time.
