The Problem With Ferrets
Jul. 16th, 2018 12:45 pmThe completion of the Problem with Chickens/Assignments story.

Trenner slept surprisingly well, tucked in on a couch that still had its no feet on the furniture sign, in very fussy handwriting, prominently displayed.
After all, if there were strange noises outside, they were no stranger than the ones she might hear in the dormitories. And if there were strange breezes coming across her, well, her second-year roommate had left the window open all winter. It was, she realized, more relaxing than her trips home, where everything felt not nearly lumpy enough, too quiet, and too soft.
Once she had woken, performed her morning ablutions - she did not ask where the water had come from, and her guide did not tell her, but it smelled sweet and washed her with no ill effects - and geared up, they were on their way into the wilds that had, once, been the Dormitory and Agriculture Quad.

Date: 2018-07-20 09:45 am (UTC)It's a solid chapter end, but ... chapter end, and I have Many More Questions. As does Trenner, I imagine. And she's going to need at least one more egg/chick if she's going to re-domesticate the Feltenner chickens. Or maybe her unnamed guild will bring one if he decides to return to see what Professor Lokeg-Fridelabout has gotten up to. I wonder how she'll describe him to Professor Sojide, since he asked to be mentioned.
(A major in weapons systems and an intrepid team of chicken hunters who become the feastbringers of the Lower East Side seems less likely now, alas. Every bad idea can't work out.)
<hopes for chapter two some day>

“Only if you don’t want to die.”
I shudder to think of what that nest might've smelled like. I've been in a poultry barn (once, I'm a city kid). I occasionally repeat the experience by visiting an agricultural fair, which doesn't quite measure up the same way.
Yay the ferret-esque thing understanding the game! I wonder, if Trenner comes back, she might be able to team up with it again. Or, maybe, just get eaten.
That egg is one that Peter T. Hooper might've appreciated for Scrambled Eggs Super. If she can fetch more, those alone will make for plenty of food. But the chicken is the thing, so into an incubator instead of a frying pan...
