Dressing, a Drabble of Reiassan
Nov. 27th, 2011 10:50 pmAfter "Is this a Kissing Fic?" but before "Talking with Mom."
"My underwear are showing."
Girey tugged on his quitari, trying to get it to lie properly. The formal tunic had several more layers to it than the simple garb they'd been wearing on the road, and it would probably look very nice on him, if he'd stop fiddling.
Rin hid a smile and moved to help him. "Your undershirt is supposed to show. It's got that embroidery on it, see?"
"Bitrani under-tunics have embroidery, too, but it's not for the public to see." He wrinkled his nose and tugged his outer shirt down again.
"Trust me, here people want to see this work. It's showing off your wealth - or, in your case, my wealth."
"Oh, joy." He frowned uncomfortably down at her. "What, you can afford to dress me up?"
"And myself up." She held her arms out, so he could see how her outfit flowed on her. "Besides, we'd be insulting Elin if we didn't dress our best for her wedding."
"I thought you didn't like her." He let his arms fall to his sides, watching her.
"Oh, come on, you know politics better than that." She smoothed down the front of his tunic, making sure the extensive embroidery showed properly. "Girey, just smile and pretend you don't know the language if you get uncomfortable."
He smirked dryly at her. "If I did that," he pointed out, "I'd never have another conversation in Callanthe."
