What kind of images are we talking about? Only photos you took and images you created, or also stuff found on the internet, drawn for you by others...?
Yeah, I don't know, either. I've got my own webspace, but that costs more than $25 a year.
On a general note RE moving to Dreamwidth, I'm following a few people who did that, but still crosspost to LJ, but with the comments switched off there.
If your webspace offers php and database support, how about installing Drupal? http://drupal.org/ It'd handle both images and text and tags, so you could tag EVERYTHING with all characters involved so it could be found, and it's awesome all around. *g*
