Ask the Characters 1: Kendra

[aldersprig]

Kendra, a slim, mousy girl, complete with mouse ears and nose, walks into the room nervously, and settles into the big rocking chair, looking out at the gathered audience. Her hands smooth her blue skirt uncertainly.

"Um, hi?" Her voice is a tiny squeak. "Professor Pelletier said you wanted to ask me questions?"


Kendra is a character in the Addergoole web-serial.

Hi, Kendra!

I know you don't like your mouse-Change. If you could have any Change, what would it be?

[aldersprig]

Something... fierce? Or pretty. I'd like to be pretty. Like Gennie or Sarita?

[inventrix]

I think you're pretty!

Do you have a tail?

[aldersprig]

I... yeah?

She turns around, to show the white-and-brown mousey tail sticking out between her shirt and her skirt. It has a tiny bow tied onto the end of it.

That bow is so cute! Do you match it to your outfits?

[aldersprig]

I'd like to? I mean, I did today?

[lilfluff]

I realize it's probably been a pretty scary school year so far, but surely there have been really cool things too. Hmm, well you mentioned magic classes to Friendly Anon, are there any other things you really like?

[aldersprig]

I like history class, too, and Science with Professor Pelletier? She perks up a little bit. And the field trip. I liked the field trip.

[lilfluff]

That did sound like a pretty awesome trip. Especially for a school trip. Our school trips rarely even left town.

I hope this one isn't too sensitive. I can ask something else if you want. But if you could give advice to someone who just found themselves kept, what would it be? Or maybe how can someone be a good keeper might be better. Um, yeah, like I said, if it's too close to home...

[aldersprig]

Kendra's ears get a bit twitching, her nose wrinkles, and she backs up in her seat.

Do what you're told. Don't look for loopholes. Don't be clever. Just do what you're told and keep your head down.

Her voice has dropped to an unhappy whisper and she keeps looking behind her.

[inventrix]

*clears her throat* So! Are you looking forward to next year?

[aldersprig]

Yes.

She smiles nervously.

I'm not supposed to. but... here, I can. I do.

[lilfluff]

Fluff acks and tries to look reassuring

Um, don't worry, that was answer enough.

What was your favorite part of the trip?

[aldersprig]

Hallowe'en was pretty nice. That was a lot of fun. And talking to my cy'ree.

And... the rough edges didn't hurt as much?

[lilfluff]

Fluff offers a plate of chocolate-chocolate chip cookies. Fresh baked too.

Can you tell us more about your magic classes? What kinds of things do you do to practice?

[aldersprig]

Kendra darts forward, steals two cookies, and darts back to her seat, shoving one into her mouth in a quick move. Moments later, blushing:

Thank you sorry thank you.

Um. Um. In eperu we mostly made holes and moved rocks around. But in Panida, we got to play with the sheepies, which was a lot of fun. I gave a sheep a perm, which I don't think it liked all that much, but it looked realy cute.

She shoves the second cookie in her mouth to stop her babbling.
