Aunt Family has a landing page here on DW and here on LJ
Beryl-modern-era. After What to do about Auntie X (LJ) and Cleaning House (LJ)
and Kitten Switchen (LJ).
Beryl wasn't entirely certain what to do with the new kitten.
He was hers, clearly (or she was his, but she knew that was the way cats went.)
She'd convinced Mom that one cat was all right, with a promise to check on Aunt Beatrix every week, yes Mom every week, to be sure she was doing okay and the cats hadn't respawned or something.
(Considering her cat appeared to be three different cats, depending on his mood, Beryl wouldn't put it by them to respawn. Besides, Aunt Beatrix hadn't seemed crazy-hoarder-cat-lady, she'd seemed cursed. And this family did know curses.)
"What am I going to do with you?" she asked her kitten. Obviously, feed, water, litter... "what do magical cats eat?" Was she being ridiculous? Well, if she was, there was nobody around to hear her but the cat.
"Magical cats eat magic, of course. But I'm satisfied with fish and a little chicken, the occasional mouse, that sort of thing."
The cat's mouth did not really move; he was grooming himself. And the voice sounded like a young boy, but not like any of Beryl's cousins. She looked at the little beast thoughtfully.
"What should I call you? Oranges? Marmalade?"
"Do that and you'll wake up suffocating in cat fur." The cat coughed, and then coughed again as Beryl picked him up by his scruff. "Hey! Mew! Mi-a-a-rrraow!"
"I don't know how you managed to bully Beatrix," Beryl whispered, "but I promise you, I don't put up with being threatened. Try it again and I'll leave you with my five-year-old cousins for an hour."
"Miaw-aw-arrw.... all right. You win." The cat grumbled quietly. "You can call me Radar. That's what your Aunt called me, and I like it better than any other name."
"Radar." She petted him behind his oversized ears, settling him more comfortably on her shoulder. "I think we'll understand each other just fine."
