From [personal profile] jjhunter's awesome How are You? (in Haiku) post from yesterday (which you should totally read):

My cat, very proud
And very loud, this morning,
presented a mouse.

3 or 4 a.m., to be specific, with the mouse so far up his mouth he was making a weird warbling noise. Good kitty. For a certain value of good.

This is the second mouse Drake has ever caught, and he responded in about the same fashion last time.

Now, I'm not known for being squeamish - except about dead things. So T had to get the mouse away from the cat/out of his mouth and dispose of it. We gave the kitty treats and told him he was a good cat.

Ah, life in an old farmhouse.

In other news, the crocuses and daffodils are up, my chives and garlic are happy, and there's buds on the lilac. Yay Spring! (I grew up in Lake Effect, NY. Any day over 60 before the end of April is a blessing to be enjoyed to its fullest before it snows again!)

I remember when my cat caught a mole! She did not kill it. >.> I noticed her by the porch and heard a high-pitched squeaking and went over to investigate and she was all like "HEY MOM LOOK" and I was like "what are you doing are you torturing a mouse stop it" and she was all "FIIIIIINE" and I was like "oh that's a mole" and then it ran away.

Though I currently live in a decade-old CA home -- which is to say it's built on a pad of concrete and the mice don't have a chance -- when I hear my cat begin to warble, my instant reaction is hell, better get the rodent-rodeo gear, because back in Upstate NY that meant I was about to have a live prey animal dropped at my feet.

As to the weather -- excellent! It's funny, I've been celebrating cold and rain here, because it's far more rare than a sunny day.

Send it over. I have become skilled at turning a deaf ear to the grumbling of the natives, who don't know what to do with a temperature beneath 75 degrees.

Aww, good kitty! Mighty hunter! Sometimes at night I hear one of my cats make a triumphant mew (which is interesting, because most of the time he just makes a sort of squeaking sound), and I know he has mightily defeated a toy mouse. He has killed real mice (and hamsters), but with four cats inside and one outside, mice don't really come near us anymore.

Though there was the time there was a mouse in the house, and the cats (just two then) and dog just staaaared at it. Ophelia was a kitten. The dog had probably never seen a mouse before. Snowy, O mighty hunter, had no excuse. Eventually the mouse was executed by swinging kitchen door.
