From
dailyprompt: "Green Netting."
Stranded World, to
inventrix's request 1. Written in 10 minutes on Write-or-Die, with distractions.
The green netting was a new touch. Autumn circled the entire yard once, just to be sure, trying and failing to hide her smirk. It wasn't chicken wire, or any sort of outdoor fencing; no, it was tulle. Anja had surrounded the tiny property in lime green tulle.
It was well done, Autumn had to admit. She'd stretched it properly between plastic-bamboo stakes, and then made long row of gathered ruffles around the bottom, giving the whole fence line a tutu. A lovely, silly, frothy lime-green tutu. The whole confection was so frivolous looking that you might miss the very sturdy wire on which the whole thing was threaded, or the lines of magic twined through, tightening everything up and acting as alarm and security system all in one. Anja had someone she wanted to keep away, and she didn't want anyone else to notice what she was doing.
Autumn paused at the gate, where the tulle was turquoise and pink and hung in thick ruffles, rather prettily, obscuring all view of the inside. The doorbell was obvious. So were the lines of magic booby-trapping it against ill-wishers.
She pushed the button.
