Late Harvest

So, Wednesday - that would be the day before the major snowstorm, but certainly after a bit of snow - I went out into our garden and pulled the leeks out (most of them), and cut the parsley, sage, and oregano back to the ground.

Parsley is amazingly resilient stuff! It will do just fine as long as you brush the snow off. But with a food of snow coming... it was time for it to get cut.

I used this idea and rolled it into a log, which went into the freezer.

Oregano and sage went into freecycled little jars, topped off with cheap (barely virgin at all) olive oil. That'll go in the freezer after T. rearranges the freezers this weekend.

The leeks? Deep fried and eaten. Delicious.

I love that it's December and I'm still pulling things out of my garden. :-D

The parslog looks like a good idea, but the link is 404 because there are unbalanced quotation marks on it (closer but no opener). Once I took that off in the address bar it went through fine.

I'll let Dw-land know how the parselog works! We've frozen herbs in olive oil before - we know that works fine.

Parselog! I've grown parsley before (in a pot); I should grow it again, as it's one of the veggies that Fiver likes. When does one plant parsley?

What's a Fiver?

Hrrm. Around here "as soon as the frost ends," but I generally buy a little baby start.

you can start them inside in March or so if you have a sunlamp or a sunny window.

I have some nice sunny windows. I will have to find some parsley seeds. And soil. Or maybe a start.
