What terms do I use for Army ranks?

Roman?

American? (most comprehensible)

Use/Make up the Calenyena words? (least comprehensible)

most comprehensible: easiest understood by the readers. "Private," "lieutenant," "captain"; these things mean something to readers.

"Centurion..." might mean something if they watched Dr. Who, read the right books. Ditto "legate."

Uhh. For actual ranks? They're all pretty meaningless. >.> General terms like infantry, cavalry and officers along with a couple things like Admirals and Generals being pretty high (and centurions being related to the number one hundred) are about it.
