Date: 2017-04-01 03:09 pm (UTC)The thing is, farmland in the NE is often dirt cheap, and if you don’t care about living in a neighborhood/close to a good school/etc, it’s a good place to plop a house.
(Also, IRL of the houses on that Aunt Family map, only “Grandma’s” still supports a farm).

Date: 2017-04-01 03:32 pm (UTC)But yeah. The house to my left, the leftmost house on the horizontal road on the map, owns almost all the farmland you can see. He's been buying it up for 50 years. The rest of the houses on the block have at best a couple acres.
