Every autumn, the Cats went on a Cruise.
That's what they called it, at least. They'd caravan up, two cars for the four of them, and they'd drive.
They'd pick a direction by vote and process of elimination ("we went North last year; let's go some other way, and East is the ocean in like a day...") and they would pull out the maps and draw out the first three days of driving on the little back roads. They'll pull together money, and they'd drive.
They were charming, the Cats, clever and charismatic and most of all, they were handsome, gorgeous men with no shame at all, not an ounce to be had between them. They were hungry, too, with the sort of want no food could sate, though they ate at diners all the same, looking at the waitresses and licking their lips.
Sometimes they drove for a day or two, found what they wanted, and spent the rest of the week back at their crib, enjoying what they'd found. Other times, it took them the whole week.
When a Cat managed to hold down a job for more than a year, their boss knew not to expect them back right after their Cruise. And if they'd stayed that long, well, they were charming and charismatic, after all, cunning and clever, and their bosses were willing to bend over backwards for them.
The Cats found it funny that, flexible as they were, it was the rest of the world that did back-bends for them.
So they'd drive, they'd go Cruising, every autumn, South or West, South-east or North-West or up into Canada. They'd drive until they met the right girl, the right girls, two of them, three, four, whatever the Cruise held this time. They'd drive until they met them, and then they'd take them.
They were cats, after all, predators, and only as kind as it suited them to be. They were charming, though, charismatic, and cunning, and that which they wanted generally came of their own free will.
Like any cat, they would play until they got bored. And then a year would have gone by, and they would go on their Cruise again.
